Like most weeks, this week has been relatively uneventful, except for the last couple days.
I recently started playing some games on the Nintendo Switch that my sister lent me. There's an app you can get on it where you can play old Super Nintendo games for free. Super Nintendo was the first video game console I ever played as a child, and the games are very nostalgic to go back to now. My favorite games are Super Mario World (of course) and Donkey Kong Country. I also really liked to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with my siblings (my favorite turtle was Donatello, the purple one), but they didn't have that on Switch unfortunately.
On Saturday, Kyra and I went bowling again at the place I like in Somerville, we got some bubble tea, and walked around Cambridge/Somerville a little. We went to Felipe's in Harvard Square, which is a really popular burrito spot and bar that we go to a lot. You must go when you are in the Boston area! I feel like I keep adding Boston recommendations to these posts...you all should come back hehe
I had a really exciting experience on Sunday, because Kyra and I went to the Cheesecake Factory as a Valentine's/Galentine's dinner with her roommates. Kyra and I had never been before. Actually, Kyra has never been to most chain restaurants because her mom has celiac's, so they didn't eat a lot of pizza or pasta or things like that growing up. I have always thought Cheesecake Factory was very bougie, like Olive Garden-level. Sometimes, my dad would take us into Cheesecake Factory just to look at the Cheesecakes but we would never buy them. This trip confirmed that it is very fancy for me. I feel like it is the most American restaurant I have been to. The portions and the menu were massive -- they had just about every cuisine you could think of on the menu. I got tacos, which were surprisingly okay, although the tortillas were kind of weirdly thick. And then of course, we ate a chocolate cheesecake, which was very scrumptious :^)
Yesterday, for Valentine's Day, Kyra and I made a lasagne at home. I don't normally like lasagne but it's one of Kyra's favorite meals, and I think it turned out really yummy in the end! All in all it was a good day.
Naoni said that I always say I'm not up to anything, but then my weeks are actually very eventful, which is funny because my weeks don't feel very eventful. Honestly, most of my time has been spent alone these days. I guess I just filter a lot of that stuff out of these posts because it's kind of boring. It hasn't been bad being alone though, and I haven't really been feeling lonely. It's actually been kind of nice to have some time to just think and rest a bit.
That being said, I've been struggling a little because recently I have been really anxious about money. It feels really stressful to not know what I'm doing next yet and not be able to really plan around it. I chose to take a break, and my schedule for the next couple months is kind of weird, so I don't want to get a real job right now, but it makes me feel really anxious to not know when I'm going to have an income again. I think I've always been really worried about being financially independent and being responsible with money, but I wish I could just kind of feel okay after I come up with a plan to save my money or spend my money. I always seem to feel anxious about money, whether I'm spending it or not. I'm hopefully going to hear back from one of the fellowships I applied to (the language scholarship one) in a couple of months, which will at least help me plan for the summer, but I keep thinking about how to save money for before I go to Korea or Japan, and how to budget my money for travelling to see you guys next month. If you have any advice, please let me know...
Anyway, that's just the anxiety that's been top of mind for me recently...
Also, Kyra went to visit her parents in Connecticut the other week and finally found these fajitas takis (our favorite flavor of takis that has been sold out in Massachusetts for over a year!!) it was the best news and i will be so sad when we run out :((
Yeah, I agree with Naoni, just try to make a soft estimate of what you're willing to spend. And I say soft because you shouldn't punish yourself if you go a little bit outside it (as long as you're not in the red). My parents always remind me that I'm young with little to no responsibilities, enjoy while you can. Your parents will always be there to help you financially. Your parents are your parents because you can rely on them. They're letting live at home for free, providing food, and you can use a car without paying for it, you know. The money you have right now is to enjoy! Save like $100 a week (or 2) and when…
Seeeeee you had an eventful week: a bunch of little pleasures. But I’m glad you have been vibing, personally, I think it’s really important to budget that into your life. And more notably, it is impressive to do so especially in a point in time where we are encouraged to always be busy and doing something. So good for you yo, get that rest you need so you can tackle on another mountain! I love the food pics, I wish you took pics of the tacos but I’ll rest satisfied with the lasagna— I’m really impressed y’all made that. As for budgeting, I honestly just guesstimate what I want to do. For example for Bordeaux and the Mtns, I wanted to just…
