I feel like many of my quarantine posts start with me talking about how it was hard for me to think of an answer for the week's topic. This week has proved to be no different, but I swear I have opinions I just can't always remember them. Generally speaking, it takes a lot for me to watch a movie these days. It always feels like a big time commitment and when I do have the time I usually want to watch something that I've seen before because I know I won't feel disappointed by the end of it. When I do watch movies though, I like going into them without knowing anything because I feel like that's when I'm the most pleasantly surprised–like that time some of us watched I Killed My Mother–but that's not always possible.
One movie that I saw recently that I didn't like was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It's a movie that's centered on an actor named Rick Dalton who is struggling to find work and his friend/stunt double. It's set in 1969 in LA and also deals with the Manson murders, specifically Sharon Tate's murder. Sharon Tate was an actress and model in the 60s who, from my understanding, was killed by members of the Manson cult while she was pregnant. I have issues with the movie in general and with Quentin Tarantino in general but at the end of the day I also just thought the movie was boring. There were some shots that I thought were pretty, but overall I found the movie super slow. It could be because I don't know that much about Sharon Tate and maybe I just didn't fully understand what was happening. I get that the whole point of the movie was to change the outcome of a significant tragic event that took place in Hollywood but I don't know it just didn't hold my attention. There were parts of the movie that felt uncomfy like some of the weird feet shots. I didn't know before watching the movie that Tarantino has a foot fetish, which is whatever but knowing that and then knowing that he had Margot Robbie and Margaret Qualley film shots with their feet prominently in the frame doesn't sit right with me.
If you don't want to see a picture of what I'm talking about avert your eyes!!!
A movie that I tried watching and didn't get through was To All the Boys I Loved Before 2. I tried watching it with Anna but about 10 minutes in we decided we couldn't watch the rest. The dialogue between Lara Jean and Noah Centineo's character was just so cringey that we stopped watching. I don't know if it gets better later on but I guess I'll never know.
This week, I started cleaning my room and going through some of my old school stuff. I came across a lot of writing that I did in elementary school and some notes from friends. Here is one of the notes that I found:
This is from one of the summers that I worked as a camp counselor. In the mornings, we would have to get there before the kids to set up and stuff and my friend would get really bored once he was done, so he started drawing me pictures/writing me notes every morning and then would drop them off in my room. This was one of them.
Also my mom gave me these pants the other day that she used to love but doesn't wear anymore. My dad says they look like clown pants but I like them.
She also gave me this shirt too!
I tried watching “To all the Boys I loved 2” at a watching party and the movie was bad to say the least. The acting and directing was so bad imo, like I never felt like I could believe anything that was happening. Anyways, I think the pants are cute! It’s always nice to have spunky accent piece. You should keep em!
Mr.seng is a harsh critic. But your pants are from that boxing glove brand right???
