Sorry this is going up late(ish), but Erin told me there are no more punishments so I'm gonna run with it (also this is not like late late, to me it's the same day). I was able to go home early today for once and I had all these plans for things I could do. In the end I went to take an innocent 2 hour nap at 7:30pm and ended up waking up at 1am...It felt really nice though, so no harm done :D I was also realizing today that I would get to be off for Labor Day!! I don't have major plans, but it'll be a good day to just take things easy and do whatever.
This past weekend was pretty action-packed :0 Friday night I went with Mary to a musical!!! She won the Broadway lottery (it's basically where you sign up for a lottery to buy reduced priced tickets. You still have to pay which is kinda bogus but they are admittedly much cheaper) for Into the Woods! I know how much all of you loooovvveee this musical. And musicals in general. But actually I've seen this one several times (mainly amateur) and I loved it every time. It's not shocking that I also loved this production of it. It had Sara Bareilles as the Baker's Wife. Fun fact: the first concert I went to was a Sara Bareilles concert. I don't remember how old I was but it was in elementary school. It's been cool to see her transition to writing and starring in musicals. It's kind of wild actually! Notably, this production of Into the Woods had a very creative use of puppets. There's a cow character and they had a very expressive puppeteer at work. After the show we went to this famous New York diner called Junior's. The food was mid, but they're famous especially for their cheesecake. I have to admit it was pretty delicious.
[I was also super into it because we had really close seats, which has never been my experience w broadway]
The next EARLY morning, I set out on a journey. A journey to Fire Island. If you don't know (I didn't), Fire Island is off of Long Island, so it was a lot of new terrain for me. You had to take a ferry from Long Island, so altogether it was probably 3 hours of travel on way for me >_< My PI has a beach house there and she invited us all out there :D I was doubting if I wanted to go at many points, but ultimately I surprised myself and even my lab mates by making it out there. It was a cute place and neighborhood and I'm glad I got to see it! My PI cooked everyone food and we played some board games, talked, and got to hang out at the beach a little. I didn't go swimming because I would feel weird around my coworkers to be honest. But I do want to go to the beach properly before summer is over! I saw the last stop on the line I was taking was Montauk! The mysterious Montauk. I know I gotta go one day.
I ended up making it home around midnight. My boss said we could stay the night but after a beach day I just preferred to do what it would take to take a shower and sleep in my own bed. That's what most everyone else did too anyways so at least we could all go in a group. Next time they go, I'm not sure if I would go just because it's such a trek. If anything, it was more worth it in that I could get to know my coworkers more. But I'm glad I went at least once!
This week has been pretty calm. Yesterday was Zach's (Mary's bf) birthday and we went to a Korean fried chicken place. The ambiance in there was neat, it was kinda old timey and jazzy. I would take you guys next time you visit!
[they let Zach cut the first slice and he was really chaotic about it and pretty much dug a hole in the middle -_-]
Ugh a beach day sounds so nice, though it wasn’t M****** I’m sure it was nice nonetheless. Also brother-man was cutting it so that everyone got a fruit. If you cut it normal, then you would get weird fruit bits on your slice! I think he was just adapting :p
ooo those do seem like some good seats! I can't believe you got to see Thee Sara Bareilles.
And yeah...three hours one way is quite a trek but hopefully a good memory and nice to get to know your coworkers! You better join Cricket Club.
Also, big fan of the dog plate
I’m glad you went to a…play. You seem to reeeeeeally like em 🧍🏾♀️ But that’s so cool you went to fire island! I heard about it but always opted to go to the best beach on Long Island— Montauksbfkfjgkdkjfffjgj!!! You should go dude, it would fulfill you PJ dreams and is genuinely just nice. But I didn’t know there were ferried that took you from nyc to Fire island/Montauk, where do you board?? Anyway, a beach day with coworkers sounds nice, you guys must feel like you know each other better now :))) And your sis’s bf is a virgo?!!!!!!!! That’s crazy :0 I love the rat 😂
