Hi babes,
Back again with another timely post! (No Photos yet because they are all saving to my Smith google photos which has been deleted grr. I will add them tomorrow).
I am getting towards the end of my internship, even though it only just started. It’s kind of crazy to realize how short internships really are, especially summer ones (like mine technically still is) which are only 8 or 10 weeks long. Anyway, My last day is probably going to be November 4th, after which I will be spending time taking an online TEFL certification course that Ful****** is paying for us to complete, hanging out with Kyra and Tomato in New Haven, and going HAM on studying Korean. But time for a recap of my weeks:
Last Sunday, my friend Laura and I went to see Sing Street, a musical that was playing at one of the theatre companies in Boston. The show is based on a movie that I watched in high school and really loved, but I hadn’t watched it since high school, so it was kind of crazy to see it adapted for a stage show this time and hear all the songs again. It’s about a group of kids in Dublin in the eighties who go to a kind of lousy high school and decide to start a band (really one kid starts it because he wants to impress a girl he has a crush on).
I really enjoyed the show! The staging was really interesting, there were a lot of projects on the wall of the stage that would create a music video feel and kind of just contributed to the “eighties vibe” lol. They also smoked a lot during the show for the “realism” I guess, and I was wondering if they were real cigarettes, but Laura and I could smell them all the way from the back row of the mezzanine so I guess they were lol. I thought that was kind of crazy. And I thought it would be a local cast but it turned out that the actors were all from quite legit backgrounds and the show might be going on to Broadway (this was the last show in Boston). I wish I went to live theater more, musicals and plays, because it’s really fun, but I think it makes it a really special treat when I do go see one.
My biggest complaint about the musical is that the song that is pretty much the biggest song in the movie kind of had a boring performance in the stage version. It was still good, but I thought they could have done more to emphasize it. This is the song, Drive It Like You Stole it:
Still, a fun time!

Moving on and more importantly, this weekend one of my high school friends got married and my friends and I headed up to Maine for the wedding! It was my first time going to a wedding actually. My friend is my sister’s age and after graduating college, she and her wife (eek so strange to think about my friend having a wife lol) moved to Montana because her wife was doing an MFA program out there. But now that she’s graduated, they moved back to the East Coast to Maine!
On Friday, Kyra came to my house and slept over and then on Saturday, Kyra and I drove up in one car while Colleen and Jude drove up in another. On the way, we stopped in Portsmouth, NH for a little. I was in Portsmouth one evening with Laura a couple of months ago and thought it looked cute so I wanted to check it out, and turns out I was correct! There are lots of little restaurants and cafes and shoppy shops to explore. We went to a toy store called G. Willikers and Kyra got a stuffed animal (she says she doesn’t want to be a stuffed animal girlie but at this point…the writing is on the wall) and then I got tiramisu at a café called Popovers (Kyra got a Popover).
At dinnertime, we met up with our friend Marty and her boyfriend Michael at a restaurant called Portsmouth brewery that had a cute sign. And after dinner, we ran into our friend and her wife-to-be! It was kind of crazy considering they live in Maine (southern Maine, but still a good 30+ minutes away from Portsmouth), but turns out they were going out with some of their wedding party.
We returned to our motel for the evening – we had decided to stay in a small town called Dover close to the NH-ME border. The next morning, we didn’t have to go to the wedding until the afternoon, so we decided to explore Dover a little. The town also had some antique shops, but we were really just interested in one place – Lickee’s and Chewy’s, an unfortunately named candy shop in downtown Dover. I was pretty impressed by this candy shop I must say, it had some unique items and Star Wars themed chocolate (forgot to snap a piccie ). Then we just hung out and got ready until the afternoon, when we drove up to Maine for the wedding.
The wedding was small and very cute. The vows were sweet and it was very touching to see my friend get to marry her partner in front of their families. I felt lucky to get to be there to see it. I didn’t think I would cry, but I found myself getting a little misty-eyed right when it started. I won’t talk much more about it because it felt kind of private, but it was just a really nice time to be there, plus a beautiful day of New England fall foliage, and afterward we had some yummy food and got to dance a little. A swell day overall.
Unfortunately, Kyra had to leave in the evening because she had an anatomy class bright and early in the morning. She was drawing on diagrams of people’s bodies earlier in the day like a freaky little med student. The next day, Colleen, Jude, and I went for a walk around Dover again and then drove home. Now, I’m just doing some work to make up for missing work today and getting ready for tomorrow.
It was a fun weekend and made me appreciate how beautiful New England can be, and how sweet it is to be friends with people for a very long time. Another long post I suppose, see you guys next week I hope :^)
And after going to my first play, I am convinced to going to more live stage performances. It really is a cool and fun experience!
I wish you had pics, it sounds like an idyllic week visiting small towns and going to weddings! And it’s so cute you got all teary eyed during your friends wedding, I am excited to see if I’ll do the same at my friends’ wedding (get married already dude! ;P)
Awww so cute, im nervous about getting in that stage of life where everyone is getting married…it’s kinda freaky. but im glad you enjoyed it and hopefully us girlies will be getting married one day to enjoy a special moment like you did :))
