Happy Halloween!
On Wednesday, my friend Laura and I went to a book talk for the last book in this YA fantasy series she got me reading called The Raven Cycle. It was at the Brookline Booksmith, a cool bookshop in, as you might have guessed, Brookline. I haven't really been to many book talks, but this was way different than I expected. I kind of thought it would be a moderated Q&A maybe, but instead the author did, like, stand up comedy lol. Afterwards, there was supposed to be a signing but the line was so long and I was anxious about catching my train, so I snuck out early.
To be honest, I'm not someone who's really interested in meeting authors/musicians I like anyway. This author isn't even a favorite of mine, but I just don't like the thought of being perceived by someone like that. It's kind of like last fall, when my friend Emma asked me to take a picture of her with the singer Mal Blum when they performed at Smith. I really like Mal Blum and took a picture of Emma and them, but I did not try to take a picture with them myself because I did not want to be perceived by someone whose music I like. Ah well, I was glad to have an excuse to leave early and I just barely made my train home so it's good I left when I did.
On Friday, I had a pretty easy day and I decided to leave early because there wasn't much to do in person at work. On my way home I walked over to the Madonna Queen of the Universe statue in Orient Heights. I went here once with my dad when I was a kid. It's this huge statue of Mary surrounded by tile mosaics depicting the stages of the cross. I remember it being massive, and safe to say I was not disappointed. I had to trek up a bunch of stairs to get up there and even though I was huffing and puffing, it was worth it. There's a great view of East Boston up there also and it's pretty idyllic. Plus, it's usually pretty empty from what I have heard. To me, this is a true hidden gem in Boston and pretty awe-inspiring to get to experience
Other than that, my week was pretty uneventful. This week is the final week of my internship and it's a little stressful because there's still a lot to do. I feel like most of the other internships I have done had smaller projects that I was working on and finished before I left, but I'm kind of working on the beginning stages of a big inventory project so it won't be done for a long time. Apparently I might be able to work a little bit remotely, but my plan for November right now is just to spend time hanging out with Kyra and Tomato in New Haven and studying Korean.
Also, recently, I have been working on a 300 by 30 list. I saw it on TikTok and was inspired. It's just a bucket list of items you want to accomplish by the time you turn 30. The creator on TikTok started when she was 26 so even though we're already a third through our twenties (barf), I feel okay about starting it now lol. I'm having a hard time thinking of ideas right now but I'm about halfway through writing my list if you all want to take a gander. I put some stuff on there that I did in my twenties that had previously been bucket list items for me (like going on a cross-country road trip!) which makes it feel less daunting. Helps me remember all the stuff I've already done that I wanted to achieve. You guys should make a list too!! I think it would be fun to compare and try to achieve big and small goals together :D
Okay that's it for now. Didn't really do anything Halloweekend-y sadly, and tonight, my plan is to watch Halloween themed kpop music videos and maybe pass out candy with my dad. Here's my dad's Halloween pumpkin again.
@aboni: Lol...lookalikes @naoni: i had to hustle to catch my train so i didn't spend much time up there. but yeah it seems like a good place to clear your head and think if the weather were nicer here i might try to go again
Love the photo! And imma try to make a 300 list too, but only when I have more time lol…I missed halloween,
but at least I’m not
the only one that didn’t have a chance to do much 👭
I kinda get where you’re coming from with the whole being perceived by your fav author/artist. Cuz like music and books are so intimate and like they’ve seen you at your best and worst and have been around you for a long time. So seeing the personified version of them, aka the creator, it feels like they know more about you even though you just meet them. The Madonna thing seems nice and peaceful, did you pray up there? Love the Wordscapes pumpkin 🤪 And foggy Boston is so pretty :0
