Okay here is a hopefully meaty update with how things have been for the past couple weeks! Sorry for being really irregular with posts recently. Not sure if it's just depression, but I've kind of being having a hard time just sort of concentrating on stuff recently, and sitting down to write about my life has become an unexpected source of anxiety. I'm trying to push through though, because I do think it is helpful to write stuff down.
Last week was graduation, finally. It felt all a bit silly to be back at Sm*th, doing graduation events with a bunch of people I don't really know, but it was nice to get to participate in all the traditions and stuff. The weather in MA has been unseasonably cold, but last week we finally got some warm weather and we ended up having really nice days for Ivy Day and Commencement (though I think I got a heat rash at Commencement?? which I have never experienced before. Either that or my dorm room gave me something which I'm not ruling out either...anyway my skin is smooth again so it's okay).
Us J-completers got housed in Parsons House, which apparently Smith had just deemed "unfit to live in" which was epic. Halfway through the week a girl had a fly infestation in her room and apparently there is a lot of asbestos in the walls...anyway, I would expect nothing but the best for the class of '22J :')
The highlight of the week was that some '21 Capen friends were able to come up for the weekend to hang out and celebrate a little! Anna Z., Clara, Madison, and Emma S. (of blog fame) made appearances! And I even got to chat with Claire P. for a second :0 I spent most of the week just hanging around campus and hanging out with some friends who were in the area or other fellow '22J people like Julianne and my friend Hana. We also went to this bar downtown called Majestic that I have always been curious about! Honestly, it was a really fun place and I wish I had known about it sooner. We went midday bc it was the only time we were free, so it was completely empty but the drinks were really fun. I got one that had edible glitter in it and pop rocks rim (I think it was called the Diana Ross -- all the drinks were named after iconic female popstars). It was surprisingly yummy.
Kyra and my family also came up for graduation day and I got to spend some time with them :^) I also found out I got highest honors on my thesis which was very gratifying after a hard couple semesters of stressing over it, and I won a couple of awards for American Studies! The whole weekend is kind of a blur in retrospect (though I have the piccies to remember it by), but I am glad I went in the end. Try as I might, a little bit of me will always be bitter I never got to have the '21 graduation I wanted. I felt a lot of affinity with that class and a lot of people I met over the course of my time at college, and it wasn't the same celebrating with a bunch of people I didn't really know all that well, but at least I got my diploma and got to do my silly little traditions. I got my diploma really fast in diploma circle though, like in under a minute! I think I might have been the first person to find my diploma tbh, or at least one of hehe.
I guess the graduation was lowkey (highkey) a superspreader event tho bc I know a bunch of people who got COVID right after. A week out and I tested negative thankfully but we shall see lol.
Other than that though, this week Kyra and I hung out because she is officially done with her job and just vibing until medical school starts. She has found an apartment in New Haven that she is really excited about and we've been trying to do fun stuff in Boston before she leaves. We went hiking and saw Everything, Everywhere All At Once this week, which I would highly recommend it was a good movie! We also saw the trailer for Marcel the Shell (with Shoes On) which I am very hype for.
And yesterday I got to hang out with some friends from high school that my sister and I were friends with from band. One of my friends in moving back to the East Coast (Maine, to be exact) with her fiance from Montana and it was the first time we got to see her in about 3 years in person and meet her fiance. We went out to dinner at our favorite sushi place in Norwood and got one of those sushi boats. It was my first time eating sushi from a boat, I felt very luxurious. I'm really excited for them to move to the East Coast though and hopefully be able to see them more often!
Okay, this is long now. Kyra and I are gearing up to go to Italy in about a week now, so I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to make sure I'm more prepared for Europe than last time though. Ready to hit up Pompi hardcore.
And finally: I've been going for walks in Norwood and I've been getting so angry noticing how people's hedges take up so much sidewalk space?? This one house had huge sidewalks that took up more than half of the sidewalk width for like at least 20 feet of sidewalk and it made me so mad. It's so inaccessible to people with mobility aids, wheelchairs, or strollers. I think you should get fined if you do that. Anyway, that's my soapbox xoxo gossip girl
Also that hedge would be perfect for the characters in “over the hedge”
watched the movies and loved the outfits in it, but overall it felt like one giant fever dream and towards the end it started making my head hurt lol. But I’m glad you got your graduation finally! It looks so cool imo, even the weather cooperated for yall. Also i agree with you and Naoni the sushi boat is pretty boujee i love it lol.
I felt pretty boujee ngl
And yes the hedges r so ugly -_-
U gotta watch it !!!
Lol the hedge thing is crazy, why is it protruding so far out like, it’s not even cute. But despite you having a ‘22 graduation, I’m still glad you had one and it was complete with all the bells and whistles! From the pics, it looks really fun The sushi boat is pretty fancy ngl, I can’t believe I know such a boujee friend like you ;P Also, everyone who has watched that everyone blah blah movie (I always forget the full title) says that the movie is AMAZING. I need to watch it asap, I wanna see what all the hype is about. And I hope you are doing better mentally 🔫
