Ah to drink port in Porto

When we first found out this week's theme I was going to say something like internet culture, but recently I found a book about Portugal so I guess I'll talk about that. I don't know a whole lot about Portuguese culture but here are some things that I've learned so far.

Pastéis de nata or egg custards are a traditional Portuguese food that's often eaten for breakfast.

I found this particularly interesting because I grew up eating dan tat, which is basically Cantonese egg custards. Before this week I had never heard of pastéis de nata but they look almost identical to dan tats. I don't know where the pastry originated from but it would make sense that both cultures have them considering Macao was a Portuguese territory.

Something that I know originated from Portugal, that the book highlights, is Port wine. Port gets its name from the Portuguese city Porto. There are all different kinds of Port but they all tend to be very sweet, so if you like sweet wine I would say this one's one you might want to try. It does have a high alcohol content though so be careful ladies!

The last thing I'll mention about Portugal is its cool tile art that's used inside and outside of buildings. I don't know the history behind them or anything but they sure are beautiful. And I like that some of them are geometric and that some of them are used to create larger pictures.

Anyways, that's all for this week. I think I'd like to visit Portugal someday to learn more about Portuguese culture and not appropriate it :)

I now wanna learn a little more about Portugal! I didn’t even know that they did the whole tile thing around their cities, it’s cool! Also, I am a fan of sweet wine— Imma give it a try and get back to you ;). And was the book you were reading in Portuguese? I remember you were learning it first semester.
