24 Hours in the Big Apple

Hello cool cats,

Quick rant before beginning: Grr...once again I think my employment may not be happening. They are ghosting me after my drug test, even though I was supposed to get my lab results last Tuesday at the latest and won't answer my emails. I'm going to follow up this week, but at this point if I don't get a start date by the end of this week, I'm going to apply to other stuff. It has been really frustrating to have been strung along like this, but I want to stop dwelling on it, apologies for the anticlimax.

But good news: this weekend I got to visit thee Rachel in her new digs in NYC! It was a short visit, only for Saturday - Sunday, but a great time. I came up to go to a concert in Central Park for Julien Baker, Sharon van Etten, and Angel Olsen. And I got to meet a few of Rachel's friends from back in her Dallas days, too.

Moments Before Impact

It was kind of crazy being around so many Dallas-ites! At one point we were talking about regional slang and stuff and they asked me what I put "smear"(sp?) on, but I had never heard of this word...do you Georgians know this term? Apparently it just means cream cheese I think hehe, I've only ever used smear as a verb, not a noun. But Rachel's friends were really nice and funny -- they were also PJO heads, as I learned when they saw the Empire State Building/Mount Olympus.

I am a big Julien Baker fan, so I was happy to see her at the concert. I didn't know the other artists too well, only a handful of songs from each. But I thought they were good! Especially Sharon van Etten, she had a very cool stage presence and her songs were exciting live. This year has been kind of a bummer concert-wise because a bunch of concerts have been cancelled and then I couldn't go to some that I was planning to go, so I'm really glad I got to go to this one!

Julien Baker. I was trying to get the person in front of me's head out of the shot but couldn't do it lol.

Encore with Sharon van Etten and Angel Olsen.

After the concert, we met up with Mary and Zach (both of Dallas fame too) and went to K-Town to go to BCD Tofu House. Rachel and I shared some Dolsot Bibimbap and we all enjoyed scrumptious banchan (except fried fish). Just a regular bunch of kimchi-heads.

Moments After Impact

The next morning, Rachel's friends went to a farmer's market and then we joined them + Mary for brunch at this place called Sweet Chick. Rachel and I split some Nashville chicken tenders and waffles, which were equally scrumptious. Someday, I would like visit Nashville and have IRL Nashville chicken, but for now, a girl can dream. After that, we went to a pretty cool bookstore and then a pen shop that the bookstore also owned (I thought it was kind of crazy that they had a whole store just for pens! I didn't get anything but it was definitely my type of place, unfortunately I forgot to take pics tho), and then I made my way back to Port Authority to catch a bus to Boston again. All in all, a fun couple days with some cool people.

lol tbh my food photography is not looking good in this post i see, but it was good!!

It's been so long since I have been to NYC (I think the last time I was there was sophomore year which is kinda crazy), so even though it was a short time it was really fun! Kyra and I are hoping to go back later in the fall and spend more time there -- it's so close to New Haven so it'll be easy!

Today, it is raining here in MA, which is good news because we've been having a bad drought. Last week, we were supposed to have a Nor'easter but it just didn't hit this part of the state. All the grass is dead and yellow as if it's late autumn or something, which is pretty weird. But I saw this video on TikTok where this guy said that some people in the South paint their grass green, is that true??

That's all for now. Until next time, goo goo goo and ta ta.

I never heard of the painting grass thing, tho we do have lawns with fake grass because it’s too hot and requires a lot of water to keep it from turning yellow. I’m glad you were able to make it to the Julien Baker concert! Tbh, I would’ve left after my artist performed so I’m impressed y’all stay through to listen to everyone, and good you did cuz you got to see other cool artist!! As usual, the food looks amazing— I didn’t know Nashville had specific chicken, what’s special about it? Nahhhh smear is probs just a Texas/Dallas thing 😭😂😂 I’m glad to see that Rachel has other PJO fans! I was so jealous that they lite the Empire State blue and…

Right the fit is tots adorbs, but yeah no smears...but, I have heard of people painting their grass! Not all the grass here like Naoni said is able to make it through the intense heat, so it more like an aesthetic quick fix. AND YEAH I TOTS WANTED TO SEE THE EMPIRE STATE LIT BLUE. I would literally pay $$$ to go to the top and embrace it all lol.
