Now that I have your attention....
I listened to this podcast a while ago about boredom and one bit that stuck with me was a story about a study where people would rather voluntarily shock themselves then be left alone with nothing to do. I went to the liberty of digging around to find out the exact episode, and yeah there's some interesting stuff there! So basically boredom is the worst thing out there (ok not a very scientific conclusion but it sure can feel like it sometimes) but also makes us search for meaning which can push us to be creative! Also in another study, bored people tended to come up with more positive and nostalgic memories 🤔🤔🤔.
Ok so clearly I've been a bit bored, but also I just thought this was interesting. Going to lab does fill up my days ok but the weekend I was like... what now?? I also didn't have to go Friday because of logistical things in the lab where we don't really have the eggs to work with by Friday. Don't get me wrong, I didn't stay in my room all day! But... almost ㅎㅡㅎ (i just came up with that face.
I have a lot of project ideas/things to do (like a certain video....) but yeah.... I can be bad about doing the things I actually should be doing. One thing that I did though was a bit of studying Korean which is good because I feel like I never have time over the semester. Here are some of my feelings using vocab I learned :-)
This week so far, it was nice because I had dinner Monday with Reem and Gracie and they are really fun company! Also I saw Monday night that Lucky's was having free piercings Tuesday so I made the most (personally) impulsive piercing decision to date and got this done Tuesday after lab.
Other than Korean and reading, I also started compiling music on Youtube of all the song videos that I really like but aren't official/on Spotify. Like live versions of songs, covers, mashups, etc. This actually takes a bit of time because I love all the songs so much I end up sitting and listening to them all the way through sometimes.
Here are some of my favs!
Regina Spektor Hotel Song - her joy/energy in this makes me so happy :-)
Hozier Do I Wanna Know - idk how he did this to that song
Rhiannon cover - the voices in this are so angelic it's wild
Marceline singing Mitski - I couldn't believe they did this when I saw it on adventure time
Bloom Later Jesse Rutherford cover - this is one of my all time fav vids... something about the song and the calmness
Also movies thoughts since last time:
- Thirteen (2003) - i definitely wasn't like this at 13 but I did relate to some of the ideas on a toned down level. I liked this one a lot!
- Eighth Grade - this one hits close to home (not in every way but many) and i like the pacing
- Boy (on Kanopy) - I recommend this one!!! Really good imo. Set in New Zealand which I don't think I've seen before and the aesthetics are on point
- Rocketman - this is about Elton John and I thought it was ok but tbh not my fav. Maybe you have to like him a lot more to really appreciate it. I do like his more popular songs but I had higher hopes bc it got a really high Rotten Tomatoes rating
Sorry this is so long and a bit scattered but just wanted to fill you in on what appears to be everything :-)
à la prochaine !
(also podcast rec for aboni (and naoni if you want to practice French)!
PS it's 🇵🇭🇵🇭 Independence Day for the Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭 ! (from spain)
Woah, I like your new piercings!! And I've been feeling the boredom a lot recently here, that podcast makes me wonder what I'm gonna start shocking myself with 👀 I still really want to watch Eighth Grade but I remember not being such a big fan of Thirteen when I saw it, maybe I'll give it another go, and thanks for the music recs ☺️ 마지막으로 심심한 건 나쁘지만 한국어를 배우고 있는 건 참 좋네요! 화이팅! (나도 공부해야 돼요...ㅎㅎ)
I like your feelings chart and your piercings look so good! The little stars are cute :) Haven't listened to the covers yet but Jesse Rutherford has some good stuff
That’s interesting the podcast you heard. And I like Regina Spector song choice, she’s a qween. Aussi, j’essaierai écouter le podcast. Merci beaucoup!
Merci pour la suggestion. Je peut ecouter a la plus tard (c'est la correct preposition ou est "au")
