Adventures in Our Own Backyard

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Since I came back from school, my family has been on the hunt for a new dresser so we've been visiting furniture stores in our neighborhood (furniture seems to be a recurring theme in my life lately). Even though we were pretty sure we had found one we liked, we wanted to explore all of our options. This resulted in us spending an afternoon in Bob's Discount Furniture. One of the more interesting places in Forest Hills.

When you walk into Bob's it looks like a typical furniture store with sofas, and beds, and sales associates waiting for you at the front door. But what makes Bob's unique is its in store cafe. This is not a completely new concept. Ikea has a cafeteria in it and I've been to plenty of bookstores with cafe sections, but I guess what surprised me is that everything in the Bob's cafe is free. Sure they don't offer full meals like Ikea does but they do have coffee, candy, ice cream, cookies, and lemonade. It's a pretty smart marketing tool.

Bob's ice cream. Sometimes they also have real ice cream that they scoop for you and toppings! That's usually in the summer though.

So after walking around for what felt like a long time we stopped by the cafe. We didn't end up getting a dresser from Bob's but we did get lots of snacks! The only thing I don't really like about Bob's is their mascot. You can see it in the background of this picture my mom took of me. I think he's supposed to be the guy that created the company.

Me (and Bob) contemplating how this place stays open

I don't know how this post turned into a review of Bob's...but it is a pretty cool place. If you have one in your neighborhood and you want a snack I would highly recommend going there.

Updates:

I've noticed a lot more bumblebees flying around my neighborhood lately which makes me happy. That must mean it's officially spring here! But they keep crashing into our windows which is sad. I feel like they never used to do this and it makes me think that their eyesight is getting worse.
