I'm back in Dallas for the week! Before leaving I didn't do much besides clean my room and make preparations to leave. I took the subway to JFK, and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. The flight was about 4 hours and I was vigilantly working on a Christmas present so I was quite productive. I flew with Jet Blue which I haven't done before, and I have to say it was a positive experience. Nothing went awry thankfully. I watched a movie called Black Phone on the plane and I finally started Minari. Black Phone wasn't bad at all. I've been bored with a lot of horror/thriller but I thought this one was original. But maybe I'm not too versed in the genre. Minari is as good as I was thinking it would be, but I didn't get to finish. It'll definitely be first up on my flight back.
Since being here, it's been a welcome break from work. I did a little bit of work from home but not much, and tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. I'm staying at Papalolo's house, and by today everybody is here (almost everyone in my family). So far being here, it's mostly been eating and chilling out. Growing up there were no dogs around, but now everyone has a dog except my immediate family. I'm fine with that since I wouldn't even be home to get to know a dog. But it's fun playing with them while they're here.
Every morning has been a struggle for me to get up, which is a bit unusual. I mean I normally don't like waking up at all, but with 7 or 8 hours it's doable if need be. I feel like I've been sleeping 8+ hours and it's still a struggle. Hopefully tomorrow morning I can wake up reasonably to have a nice and full Thanksgiving day.
We are spending it with my dad's side of the family, but today we had a dinner with my mom's side. It was a Thanksgiving type get together but also celebrating my grandpa's 85th birthday. We went to a Chinese buffet that actually wasn't too bad. I was a little bit skeptical, but the food was typical Chinese fare (in America at least). I haven't seen much of my family in over a year, so it was good to see them :)
This morning we also went to the science museum in Dallas. It's definitely like others in that it's very interactive and aimed towards children. We went with my little cousins though so it's fun! I've been here a handful of times at this point and nothing much was new, but I think it was fun for them so that made it entertaining.
I hope everyone else will be having a good Thanksgiving! I'm grateful for you guys <3 friends, family, health- they're all cliché but I am a really lucky girlie :) I'm sad that H won't be here this time, and I'm also very grateful for him. Being in different countries is hard, but we do what we can. Even in this circumstance, there is plenty to be thankful for.
I didn't really get the hype of thanksgiving food when I was younger, but now I really look forward to it. I find it more yummy now, but also I guess it's also why I like seasonal gimmicky things like fall and winter flavors. When you get older the time passes quick but also somehow drags on. These little silly things are changes to celebrate and deliberately recognize. I realize now how special my family made things during holidays and how that was a big and intentional effort in many cases. Holidays could be like any other day, but getting in the spirit and planning things is what makes it special :) Being out of the country and also watching my little cousins from the perspective of an adult, I understand better the importance of traditions. You don't know how special something is until it's not there!
[I tried this "dream" flavored coke and I really like it !! So delicious. Tastes like rainbows and unicorns]
Yeah holidays and traditions makes families special and makes you yearn for them when you’re away. I wish i had that personally (holidays don’t mean too much for me) but like naoni said i Hope to make it so for my niblings 🥹
Ngl I felt like the dream flavor wasn’t all too good, but you and Erin like it so I won’t say too much negative stuff about it. But yeah, I think holidays/festivities are really important, I didn’t really have them growing up so I am trying to be more intentional and make each season and their holidays a memorable thing for my niblings. Family is really important and I feel like with age and discovering the world, you begin to fade away from those important people but holidays and traditions keep your family close/connected :)))) Is that your cousin on the ground?? What are they doing 😭😭 Happy bday to your gramps! He’s a Scorpio 🫢 And I’m so jelly, everyone is getting pets!…
lol at the dudes on the floor. sounds like a fun time with family, i hope thanksgiving was good too! I completely understand what you said about holidays feeling more special now -- I find myself getting so excited for them! Grateful for your friendship and I hope you get to see H someday soon too (oh and i had that dreamworld coke at the coca cola factory (maybe you've heard of it), sooo scrummy)
