Sure is a hot one

This past week has been rather uneventful but in a good way. I go to lab, I've started regular shifts at Young, I hang out with friends (primarily Aboni), I eat soup in the CC Cafe.

This weekend was unusually hot for Northampton and people were not having it. Like I understand it was hot, but also I definitely didn't find it unbearable like some. Maybe I'm somewhat more acclimated to it coming from Texas? Here are some of my memories of the hottest ones out there:

- running up and down the metal bleachers in the middle of July for drumline camp

- sitting on the steps of a building watching a Fourth of July parade in DC last summer

- either last summer or two summers ago when the AC was down at my grandma's house and I couldn't sleep

Hot weather also always makes me feel like rereading Holes, so I should do that soon..... I always think to myself, no matter what, it can't be as bad as Stanley Yelnats in that book.

Saturday was probably the hottest day, but that didn't stop me and Aboni from our plans to hit the thrift store. We planned on walking about 30 minutes to a nearby Goodwill (I think?) but I decided against it about 100 steps in :-)

I think the trip was a success! Some spicy finds out there for sure.

I would do a visual haul like Naoni did for us, but I am frankly too lazy (enough comments may convince me).

On Sunday, I went to Iconica Social Club with Jackie, Cassie, and Chaia. The brunch theme for the month is food from East Asia. I'm not sure how authentic it was, but I tried onigiri with furikake for the first time and now I get what Erin's student was talking about! Truly delicious!

I also finally put together a video from Spring Break which you can view here!

On a more serious note: I was sad and ashamed to say, but Toad "Tod" Poot Lovato passed away Monday. I came back from Young, and he was gone (not physically but spiritually). I take full responsibility. One day he was sprouting arms and fingers and that means they need air and somewhere to perch. They also don't need food at this point because they absorb the nutrients from their tail. What I didn't anticipate was the morning it happened, his tail was intact and he had a bit of rock to perch. However, when I found him, the tail was gone..... I didn't know the change would happen that fast, and I'm not sure if the death came from lack of food or space. Either way, I'm not in a rush to care for any more living beings.

Tod on a rock with his tail the night before it happened.

RIP Tod (2019-2019)

Omg I'm so sorry for your loss rachel and aboni...I know how much you cared for him. Toad "Tod" Poot Lovato may be gone, but his impact on all of us will live on for a long time. And I know it's very late but I would love to see what you got while thrifting. Of course I also want to say again that I love your film (Is that Oscar Buzz I hear in the distance?), and I hope you managed to keep cool these past two weeks. I keep getting Northampton Heat Advisory warnings from AccuWeather. Your Texas-hardened self is so strong though like you said, but I hope cooler days are on the way for you guys for the…
