Frenchness

So I have officially begun my classes for the semester and all of them are in French except one which makes me happy. Friday I went under the Jet d'Eau for the first time and it was a pretty cool time. We got fondue at the Bain de Paquis soon after. Later on I decided that I needed to go party and ended up having a really nice time. I meet this cool girl from Brazil that didn't speak a lot of French, but our taste in music and love for dancing was the best form of communication we had. It was super cool to meet someone in this way. I got her number and hopefully I can party with her again. With the partying came creepy men though. One guy slapped my friend's butt and when I was trying to save her this other guy kept talking to me and trying to get my number. Then we went to another club and this guy wouldn't leave us alone. Apparently he just wanted one dance with me and I ended up giving in, so he could just leave us alone. And overall they just kept offering to buy us drinks and to "show us a good time" creepy stuff like that. Other than the men though the music was nice and I literally danced from 12-4am.! Also, on Sunday I crossed the border into France (which is literally a 15-minute bus ride!) and climbed part of the mountains that I see out of my window.

Unfortunately, my head was more ambitious than my body. I am way too out of shape and sick. So I had to take a 20-minute breather during which some wild Swiss/ French (more than likely Swiss, they are a different breed of human) people. First this old man passed by and literally was walking up the 90 degree incline and then two Swiss men passed by jogging and talking. I was flabbergasted by their ability to hike, jog, and talk all at the same time. I wanted to throw myself off of the mountain due to my physical shortcomings, but the near vertical almost made it happen as I almost fell down 3 times. Instead of finding another place to hike me and my friends decided to eat. I ended up making a crap ton of potato pancakes as well as a cheese sauce. Everyone liked except me, and tbh I think they were just being polite, but the cheese sauce was delicious. Following this we the POC folks of the Geneva program decided to head out to Mykonos for spring break. I am super excited!

On a more serious note. I am really worried about the Coronavirus. Northern Italy's border has literally been shutdown. Switzerland is situated right along that border and a couple of people here have already been quarantined. Since the Smith Florence program has been pretty much evacuated my program directors think Paris and Geneva are next. I hope no one gets sick though, and we can enjoy our semester! Anyway, I am right now eating dinner getting ready to go to class and then Paris soon after. Wish me luck!
