It’s been a slow week since I was feeling pretty sick. I took an at-home test which was negative and a pharmacy antigen test this weekend when I was feeling at my worst. I was honestly pretty worried considering how contagious Covid is at the moment but I was negative. Part of me wonders if I ever got it and just didn’t know or took the test at the wrong time to be able to detect it… in any case, I do what I can and I’ll keep saying that I haven’t fell prey to it yet. I saw a post that was like, with omicron it feels like when you’re playing dodgeball and are the last kids standing hiding in the corner with nowhere to run. Yeah… that’s kinda it right now :D
Right now the policy in schools is that if a kid has Covid in the class then that class closes and everyone has to get tested negative before being allowed to come back. It’s more lenient than last year though where one case meant the whole school would close for a week. I think it’s good that they’re being careful but frankly it seems like an administrative nightmare. Lately there have been so many classes I come to to find out I actually will not be helping because either there are no students or there are only a handful. Since I commute, it doesn’t make that much of a difference actually because I can’t go home in between classes anyways. But it’ll be interesting to see how things progress and how much longer this wave of heavy cases last.
Wednesdays theres no school for elementary students in France, so that means no work for me! Last night (Tuesday) it was fun because I stayed up all night with H*** because he had to write a whole paper (lol). We watched a lot of Gossip Girl at the same time and I made some good progress on my new crochet project. I also started a Netflix docu-series about college cheerleading called Cheer. We got about half way through and I’m very invested. Did you know the nation’s best college cheerleading team is from a junior community college in Texas? I think I’m so interested in this show is because it also reminds me of band. Despite the band/cheerleading differences or dare I say rivalry, the parallels are there. Stereotyped images of being just the side show to football etc etc. Anyways, I’m excited to finish the season.
I didn't take many pictures this week and I have to remember to try and take more for these posts!
Book of the Week: L’Ecume des jours by Boris Vian (1947) – For the second book of the year, I decided to do a French one that I found in one of those free neighborhood libraries. I watched the movie by Michel Gondry of this book and I really loved it. It’s called Mood Indigo in English and if you like “weird” cinematography I would recommend it. It’s weird but also whimsical and melancholic and beautifully done. I’m also glad I watched the movie first because it makes reading the book easier. The language is also intricate and whimsical, poetic and unexpected. Since it’s in French, I would be even more confused by the imagery if I hadn’t seen it played out before. So far I think it’s a beautiful book.
I watched Cheer when I was abroad with my roommate and we really liked it, but it’s a VERRRRRY distant memory. Maybe I should rewatch so I can be apart if you and Aboni’s convo. And I’m sorry you were under the weather love, but at least it possibly wasn’t COVID. But yeah, similar to you, my classes have been sparse due to kids staying home because they are positive. It’s scary but there isn’t much to do other than washing your hands and wearing a mask :// And the desserts you had look so delicious, save me a piece!
Nice!!! already maintaining your new year goals, you get it girly…but I’m sorry you were feeling sick i thought you were j under the weather not full on dying lol. but I’m glad you’re feeling better also i watched and finished cheer. When you’re done i have so juicy details about everything that’s has happened since the last season, it’s literally WILD!!!
