CHANGE

Updated: Sep 22, 2019

The Good: Donc, I am in a new town, more like city, called, Des Moines. I was surprised by the Midwest. It's not just cornfields. There's a downtown with skyscrapers. There's traffic. There's like three colleges around. I am totally taken aback by the city to be honest. The program I am in is constantly bombarding us to come to the school and they are quite honestly doing a good job.

Des Moines

Other than that I am learning about the medical school process and things to do. They are helping write my personal statement. Giving me shadowing experience. And they are giving is a diversity health series certificate which is cool. I have met the president, the dean, and all of the admissions people. I made friends with a current DO student and he is helping me get in contact with a psychiatrist and a doctor. I have also been promised to be put at the top of the admission process for attending this program which is perfect for me! I really appreciate the opportunity.

Lifestyle changes are interesting as I have been exercising a lot. One of my closest friend here is basically a fitness coach and has really been working me out. I am still vegan. And surprisingly I have been awake during normal human hours.

The Bad: I haven't eating that well as Des Moines University is not a very vegan friendly place. I am living like a junk food vegan.

The Ugly: I really miss all of my Georgia friends. I like going through withdrawal. We were hanging out like everyday and it makes me sad that I can't hang out with them like I usually do. I also miss my mom and my niblings a lot. They cried when I left and I felt like doing the same thing... Luckily the people in the program are really nice and I am really close with them after only knowing them for five days. It's really crazy. We've been eating breakfast, going through the program, eating lunch, cooking and eating dinner, watching TV, and living together. Basically we are doing everything together. It's really nice, but I don't know how much longer my introvert battery will last lol.

Aboni's Suggestion-

(know you've been looking forward to this)

All the pre-med people should look into DMU

I've been back now for a minute and things are more or less back to normal. I went to Siem Reap to get Mexican food for lunch and went...
