So my week started off really slow. I went to an opera show with my friend Cassidy, it was surprisingly empowering: all the opera singers were black! This was nice to see since the black presence is hardly seen in fine arts. And what made their performance so good was the fact that they didn’t just sing old italian/french/german songs, but they also sung american slave songs which was nice because they, in a way, legitimized black music as a form of fine art. But enough of my black power talk, while at the event I bought a poke bowl from a street car and it was REALLY good, I was a little hesitant to share ;P
Anyway, my niblings came over and it was wild to say the least. When they first got to my house, I took them to the park. It was kind of hard keeping a handle of all five of them especially when there were so many people there at the park but I managed.
Then they wanted to go to the park again the next day, but we had to walk there since my mom wasn’t there to drive us. So I made a buddy walking system and we walked on over to the park. It was kind of sad walking back though because they were all tired from playing so they were dragging their feet and turned a ten minute walk into a twenty minute walk. And my youngest nephew’s little feet kept giving way, but I couldn’t carry him since I was carrying my backpack that was filled with park essentials and food. But all the same we managed to make it back. Once we did, we took a little break and then decided to bake cookies.
Then on their last day, we went to the pool. We got there at one in the afternoon and didn't leave until seven in the evening. In that span of time they made friends and learned to semi-swim. That was probably my favorite day with them.
But, I learned after watching all these humans by myself, that moms are pretty cool especially single-moms. I always think about the fiscal aspect of taking care of kids that is a struggle for moms but I didn’t think about the actual “taking-care of the kids" part. I realized breaking up little spats is really taxing and a bit obnoxious especially when you are trying to clean or cook. Plus, it is very easy to neglect yourself since all you do is take care of kids and once the day is over, you are exhausted and don’t want to do anything else, including stuff for yourself.
Later that week, I went out to dinner with my besties, Sebastian and Alex. When we tried to pay for our food, they thought at first that Alex was my boyfriend and that Sebastian was third-wheeling. Then, we were like nah and then they were like “Oh you’re dating him [Sebastian] my mistake” and we were like nope not that either. And then the worker was like “Well one of you guys are gonna have to pay for the lady” and I was like why, I can pay for myself: I got shmoney. It was a whole mess, it took like five minutes to explain to the worker that it was possible for girls and guys to go out to places as friends and that woman can pay for themselves.
And to end my week, I got sick :'))
But yeah, do awesome things this week and take a moment to reflect on the great prophet Meap
Literally Meap is a god. He's the bringer of truth, justice, and fairness, but there are only few who can truly understand his life giving words
Still love the pic of your niblings by the cookies :')
oooo poke is so good but gotta be careful with it. that opera sounds super cool. it's always nice when people sing in non-romance languages. your niblings are so precious :) I like the pic of them staring at the cookies baking
i love meap. the opera sounds really neat! I've only been to one before in Italian and if was ... boring but so cool that it was an all black production. a few things :-)
- you sound like such a fun aunt! yeah i guess you really do start appreciating things when you're put in that position..
- claire got poke recently and like passed out in lab bc of it o_o so I'm a bit wary
- funny how they didn't think of the possibility that you were the one third wheeling hahaha jk but really that's messed up 👎🏼
Get well!!!!!!!!!
